Every stop, café and restaurant is something Redditors told a visitor to do, ranked by how many different people said it, with hours checked against the venues in September 2026. The plans start at Warszawa Centralna, where the airport train and the intercity trains arrive.

Coffee and food, according to Reddit

Alongside the sightseeing threads, 150 or so r/warsaw food threads were read: 'best pierogi', 'authentic Polish', 'where do you actually eat', 'specialty coffee', 'favourite bakery', 'milk bar alternatives', 'must-try orders'. Counts are distinct usernames naming the place. Hours were checked against the venues' own listings on 14 September 2026; they drift, so glance before you go.

Coffee and breakfast

Warsaw's coffee threads have a pecking order and a feud. Ministerstwo Kawy, Forum and the roasters (El Cafetero, Hałas, Trigger) are the connoisseurs' picks; Coffeedesk and Charlotte are where everyone actually goes and where the baristas on the subreddit roll their eyes. Green Caffe Nero is named by 14 people and left out: it is a chain, and the thread that produced the count was about why there are so many of them. HAYB is left out too: seven mentions from a single thread, most of them negative.

Lunch and quick food

The instruction locals give most often is not a restaurant but a category: eat in a bar mleczny, the subsidised milk bars, and 128 different people say so. The four food halls (Norblin, Elektrownia, Koszyki, Browary) are the other repeated answer, with one local's 'I personally hate these foodcourts' for balance. Nothing here needs a reservation.

The Old Town is the place locals tell you not to eat ('avoid restaurants in the old town, besides Pyzy Flaki Gorące'); Podwale 25 and Bazyliszek are the two exceptions Redditors make. Restauracja Polska Różana, named by ten people, closed its Warsaw dining room in June 2025 and moved to Konstancin, so it is left out.

Where the plans put these

Three hours: a pączek at Pawłowicz on Chmielna, coffee at Piotruś on Nowy Świat, Pyzy Flaki Gorące or Syrena Irena if you need lunch near the Old Town.

Half day: lunch at Food Town in Norblin or Bar Bambino, coffee at Piotruś, Wedel's Freta lounge in the New Town, a beer on the boulevards.

Full day: coffee at Charlotte or Ministerstwo Kawy on Plac Zbawiciela, lunch at Hala Koszyki or Bar Prasowy, Wedel or Lukullus on the walk, the boulevards at golden hour.

Food fights on r/warsaw

Zapiecek. Sixty-eight people name it, thirteen of them to warn you off. 'Don't go to zapiecek only tourists dine there' against 'usually full of Polish people'. The middle view: 'a bit touristy but their pierogi are really good'.

Milk bars versus restaurants. 'Authentic pierogi is such a bs. Just go to any bar mleczny.' The counter-view is that Prasowy's pierogi 'taste like they're frozen' and Zapiecek's are better.

Wedel. In the 100-upvote comment and 'kind of a tourist trap' in another. The 1894 room settles it in Wedel's favour for a drink, not a meal.

Food halls. 'Really great spots to eat, drink and have fun' (17 upvotes) against 'I personally hate these foodcourts like Norblin and prefer real restaurants'.

Coffee. Baristas call Coffeedesk 'a glorified, overpriced chain cafe' and HAYB worse; regulars keep drinking there. Nobody argues with Forum or Ministerstwo Kawy.

Gościniec. Nine mentions, two 'awful', one 'the McDonald's of pierogi'. Left out of the plans.

How long should you give it?

A full day. The three things nobody skips (the Rising Museum, the Royal Route into the Old Town, and an hour on the river) plus one thing outside the centre already need nine hours, and the district locals like most, Praga, only fits in the evening.

Recommended: the full day, about 9 hours

09:00 to 18:00 from Centralna. It covers every entry in the top ten of the tally except Praga and Wilanów, and it runs south to north so the river comes at golden hour. Locals who answered 'how many days' said two or three; this is the day that makes the second one optional.

Half a day is the honest minimum

Six hours still gets the Rising Museum, a milk-bar lunch, the Royal Route, the Old Town and the boulevards. You give up Łazienki, the communism museum and Praga, and you cannot do it on a Tuesday, when the museum is shut.

Three hours works, but only as a walk

The dash is the Redditor layover formula: up the Palace, down Nowy Świat, into the Old Town, bus 175 back to the airport. Two people who tried a six-hour airport layover budgeted 2.5 hours of lost time getting in and out; from a train, the three hours are all yours.

Stay for the evening if you want the city locals describe

Praga, the footbridge at sunset, the vodka museum, dinner at Stary Dom or in a Praga jar-dumpling bar, drinks in the Pawilony courtyard, then a tower at night. Everything Redditors say makes Warsaw 'criminally underrated' happens after 18:00.

What to arrange ahead

The three-hour dash needs nothing booked and about 10 PLN in cash for the tower. Everything else in the plans that can sell out, close, or turn on the day of the week, sorted by lead time.

A week or more ahead

Pick the day. Tuesday closes the Rising Museum, POLIN and Fotoplastikon. Monday closes the Royal Castle, the National Museum, the Museum of Warsaw, the Chopin Museum, the vodka museum, Bibenda and LAS. Thursday is free at the Rising Museum, POLIN, the Museum of Warsaw and Wilanów, so queues are longer. Friday and Saturday keep the Palace terrace open to midnight and light the fountain show (to 26 September). Saturday and Sunday close the Royal Route to cars. Sunday has the Chopin recital in Łazienki and shut shops, though every café, restaurant and Żabka is open.

Dinner. Stary Dom fills up ('you might have to call beforehand'); Soul Kitchen is 'frequently fully booked'. Bibenda and LAS are closed Monday.

Polish Vodka Museum. Guided tours only, every 20 minutes to 20:00, 18 and over; the Friday and Saturday slots go first and cost 80 PLN instead of 70. bilety.muzeumpolskiejwodki.pl.

Highline at Varso. Sunset slots sell out and cost most; from 45 PLN online against about 70 at the door.

A few days ahead

Copernicus Science Centre (the rain swap for the river): timed tickets at bilety.kopernik.org.pl; same-day slots often go, especially at weekends.

Rising Museum guided tour, if you want one: only through 1944.pl. Unguided entry needs no booking; tickets stop 30 minutes before closing.

Palace of Culture terrace: buy online for a sunset slot, otherwise walk up.

Museum of Life under Communism: online tickets are capped at 20 per hour on weekdays and 10 at weekends; the door usually has room.

On the day

Cash for St Anne's tower (about 10 PLN) and for milk bars, which mostly take cards now but not always.

Transport ticket: 20 minutes 3.40 PLN, 75 minutes 4.40 PLN, 24 hours 15 PLN, all zone 1 including the airport station; from machines at stops and on board, or the Jakdojade app Redditors name for routing. Validate once.

Apps: Uber and Bolt ('dirt cheap'); at the airport, ignore the unmarked taxi touts ('watch out for scam taxis, there's a lot of them').

Milk bar drill: read the menu board, order and pay at the till, take the receipt to the hatch, return your tray. English varies; 'be prepared with what to order'.

Getting there and around

The plans start at Warszawa Centralna because everything arrives there: the airport trains, the Kraków and Gdańsk expresses, and the M1 metro at Centrum across the square. Numbers below are from the operators; Redditors' advice is marked with counts.

From Chopin airport

Train. SKM lines S2 and S3 (and KM regional trains) from the terminal station to Warszawa Śródmieście or Centralna in about 20 minutes, every 15 to 30 minutes. The airport is in ZTM zone 1, so a 4.40 PLN 75-minute ticket or the 15 PLN day ticket covers it; buy from the ZTM machine, not the Koleje Mazowieckie one, unless you are boarding a KM train. 54 Redditors discussed the transfer; the train was the default.

Bus 175. The 18-upvote layover answer: from arrivals to Centrum, Nowy Świat and Piłsudski Square by the Old Town in 35 to 45 minutes, same ticket, and back to the airport from the same stop.

Uber or Bolt. 'Dirt cheap', 25 to 40 minutes to the Old Town depending on traffic; 73 Redditors mention ride-hailing, several warning off the airport taxi touts. Modlin airport is not close: 'Modlin? Nope.'

By train from elsewhere in Poland

Kraków: EIP Pendolino to Centralna in about 2 h 20 min, roughly ten a day from 06:40 to 20:40, 49 to 69 PLN a month ahead rising to 150 to 190 PLN in the last week. editorial

Gdańsk and Łódź also arrive at Centralna (about 2 h 50 min and 1 h 15 min on the fastest trains; check intercity.pl). Several Redditors tried to add Auschwitz or Kraków to a Warsaw day and were told the same thing: 'Definitely not feasible.'

Getting around

Two metro lines (M1 north to south under Marszałkowska, M2 east to west under the river), trams and buses on one ticket. Tickets: 20 minutes 3.40 PLN, 75 minutes 4.40 PLN, 24 hours 15 PLN; validate once in the yellow machine, then ride anything until it expires. Jakdojade is the routing app locals name. The metro runs to about 00:30; night buses after.

The Royal Route is car-free on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 26 March to mid October 2026, from Rondo de Gaulle'a to Miodowa; buses 116, 175 and 180 divert then.

Sundays: big shops closed, everything else open. Drinking outdoors is illegal everywhere except the Vistula boulevards. Pickpockets: 'it ain't 90s anymore' is the local consensus; the one repeated warning is the airport taxi touts and, for women alone at night, the women-for-women option in ride-hailing apps.

Wilanów

46 people. 'Skip Wilanow. Go to Łazienki Królewskie instead' (42 upvotes) against 'Palace in Wilanów is better than the Royal one in the Old Town'. It is 40 minutes out by bus 180 and the palace closes at 15:45 most days. Decision: 'with more time'; free on Thursdays, tickets from 09:00 and limited.

The Palace terrace against St Anne's tower

'Don't go to a Palace of Culture and Science sight balcony, it's not worth it. Climb the Św. Anna Tower instead.' 'PKIN is a skip for me, but it is now considered an icon.' The boulevards

Decision: it needs half a day and is closed Tuesday like the Rising Museum, so it goes to 'with more time'; free on Thursdays.

Praga: dangerous or not

95 people. 'The most dangerous district in Warsaw, but there is essentially 0 danger in most of Warsaw, so the most dangerous is still really safe.' Residents: 'If you avoid ul. Brzeska and Stalowa, nothing bad will happen to you.' Decision: the evening plan goes; Brzeska by daylight for the dumplings, Ząbkowska and Koneser after dark.

Left out on purpose

Warsaw Zoo (13): 'skip zoo, wasting of your time', 'pretty poor compared to Wrocław or Kraków'. Hala Gwardii: closed since June 2023, reopening planned for 2027. Restauracja Różana: closed June 2025. Gościniec: two 'awful'. Green Caffe Nero: a chain. HAYB: one thread, mostly negative. Neon Museum is kept but at its new address inside the Palace of Culture; Redditors still send you to Soho Factory in Praga, where it no longer is. Saska Kępa and the Vegan Ramen Shop 20

Pre-war modernist villas across the river, Francuska street's cafés, the beach under Poniatowski bridge. 'Completely different vibe than the Western part of the city.'

The national park on the city's north-west edge for a day's walk; Pole Mokotowskie, 'a tad like Central Park with the skyscrapers', for a run or a beer garden.
